This process will work to clean candle wax stains from any fabric at all – from carpets to clothing. You just need three things:

1. An iron (A hairdryer will work in a crunch)

2. Plenty of paper to absorb the wax (Paper bags work the best, followed by newspaper and paper towels)

3. Patience

Follow these steps:

1. Using an instrument with a dull edge such as a butter knife, scrape off as much of the hardened wax as you can and then vacuum it up.

2. Place your absorbent material down over the wax stain. If you’re using paper towels, use 2-3 layers.

3. Run an iron set on low (”delicates”) and without steam over the paper taking care not to burn the material you’re cleaning. You will notice the paper get darker as the iron melts the wax and wicks it up into the paper. When this happens, move the paper so a fresh area is over the wax and repeat until all of the wax is gone. If you’re removing wax from shag carpeting you may need to fluff and brush the carpet to expose it at different angles in order to get all of the wax up. Be patient and you’ll get it.

4. If you’ve gotten all of the wax up and some color from the candle still remains, apply a spot cleaner and scrub.

That’s it! That’s all there is to it, you just need to have patience when dealing with a large spill and be sure not to burn your carpet, furniture, or clothing.

Carpet stains are most difficult to get rid of when it has settled into the fiber for a long time. Stains can damage a carpet; they can also promote the wreaking of various odors and the spread of all sorts of germs and bacteria that can prove to be harmful if not taken care of in good time and in proper ways. However, these stains are not far from being easily removed and you can do this just by using regular household items. Learn how to clean a carpet with these following liquids and you can save money from buying super expensive cleaning solutions.

Water

When it comes to fresh carpet stains, water is still the best solution. With warm or even hot water and a few paper towels or rags, this is the best way to clean up a carpet stain on a budget. However, this is only best if you clean up a new spill and not something that has been in the carpet for a long time (long enough to attract all sorts of bacteria and form odors). So after a new spill, warm water and paper towels is best to absorb and get rid of any liquids and small debris.

Ammonia

Another effective solution to stains is the ammonia. Here is how to clean carpet stains with the chemical. You will need to mix a tablespoon of the stuff with a half-cup of water first because ammonia alone can be very harsh and damaging to any carpet. Blot the mixture onto the stain and leave it there for a couple of minutes. Then, use a sponge and clean water to blot that area again and you will notice that the stain will now be absorbed into the sponge as it was loosened by the ammonia.

Vinegar

Vinegar has another use that has nothing to do with food: carpet cleaning. Here’s how to clean carpet stains with this condiment. Again, this should not be used in its pure form and it is highly recommended that you use white vinegar. Mix a third of a cup of the vinegar with a two-thirds cup of water. Then blot it on the area where the stain is (this is especially helpful with beer stains that give off an odor). Then use a sponge and some water to blot that area again to absorb the stain and liquid off the carpet.

Rubbing Alcohol

Here’s one household item that you can actually use in its pure form. Rubbing alcohol is especially useful in removing stubborn and sticky stains such as ink. It will help remove the stickiness from the ink so that it can be wiped off easily. Rubbing alcohol can also be used to remove blood stains as well but perhaps a little water will be needed to help remove it further.

Carpet cleaning emergencies can be solved by these simple household liquid items. This is a great way on how to clean carpet stains minus the hassle of going to the department store and wasting time as a spill sets into your rug.

A black kitchen sink can be a show stopper. It looks amazing in a modern kitchen. Keeping it clean can be difficult if you don't follow a recommended plan. Read more for 3 easy steps to keep you black kitchen sink shiny.

Having black appliances and a black sink looks very nice in a modern kitchen, but the problem is that it only looks nice when they are clean. Fingerprints, smudges and food scraps are very noticeable on a black sink.

Use these easy ways to keep your sink looking great:

1. Always wipe down your sink after you do dishes. This may seem like a lot of work, but it really only takes 5 more seconds and your will have a nice shiny finish on your black sink without smudges or waterspots. Doing this after you use the sink, or at least once a day, will help you avoid doing the deep cleaning.

2. Deep clean your sink regularly. There are many products on the market to clean your sinks, but the most recommended are soft-scrub and windex. If you feel like cleaning with more natural products, some people have had good luck with baking soda and vinegar or rubbing a halved lemon onto the sink and letting it sit. The acid will help loosen any stuck on food and your sink should wipe up quickly.

3. Buff and Polish. If you want to maintain a nice shiny sink, use car polish. I have buffed and polished my black sink and it usually stays that shiny for a least 1 month, sometimes over 2 months depending on its use. Just remember that you used car polish on your sink, so do not place peeled vegetables or fruits directly into the sink without rinsing them before you use them. However, this particular technique works really well.

The benefits of having a black sink are purely aesthetic. Black sinks are difficult to maintain, they really are. But with these few simple steps, your sink can look great, you’ll receive lots of compliments on it, just don’t tell anyone how difficult it really is to maintain.

In order to keep the kitchen clean, the kitchen appliances should also be kept neat and clean.

The kitchen is the central place in the house and hence requires proper care. In order to keep the kitchen clean, the kitchen appliances should also be kept neat and clean. This will give a pleasing look to over all house. It will also get rid of the insects. We present some simple tips for cleaning kitchen appliances with baking soda which will also avoid use of harsher cleaners which damage appliances.

General Tips

Make a mixture of 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of vinegar, and 1 gallon of hot water to clean grease, grime as well as deodorize.

Baking Soda and White appliance surface s

Mix 1/4 cup of baking soda with a few cups of warm water to wash the outside surface of white appliances. Rinse it clean after 15 minutes to remove yellowing of the appliances.

Using Baking Soda to clean the Oven

Please keep your oven completely cool before attempting this solution. Spray the baking soda on the bottom of the oven to form a thick layer. Then with a spray bottle, spray the water on the soda to make it damp but not saturated. If the baking soda dries out, keep spraying the water. After repeating this procedure over several hours, scrape out the baking soda with a clean cloth. Finally rinse the bottom of the oven completely. Find out the shining oven with all the food particles removed out of it !

Baking Soda in cleaning the Microwave

Mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water to clean the inside of the microwave oven. Keep a box of baking soda in the microwave in between uses to control the odor in it. Mix a few tablespoons of baking soda with water in a microwaveble cup and boil in the microwave for a few minutes. It will make the inner surfaces damp and easy to clean as also remove the odors.

Baking Soda and Garbage

Put some baking soda onto the bottom of the garbage can beore replacing the plasic liner to eliminate odors. Similarly if you keep an open box of baking soda under the sink, you can easily get rid of foul smells there also. Whenever you fill a trash compactor spray little bit of baking soda in it.

Using Baking Soda in the Refrigerator

Just put an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator and freezer to remove the odors. You can ideally change these boxes once in every three months. If your refrigerator gives stale odors, wash the inner walls with baking soda and water. Sprinkle a little baking soda at the bottom of the crisper to make it odor free. Also keep a folded paper towel as a cover at the bottom on the crisper. Replace it every three months, just as you replace the soda boxes. You can make a mix of baking soda and water to clean food particles and rust residue in the refrigerator. Stains can also be easily removed by cleaning with baking soda. This will also eliminate the odor.

Why put up with a boring, lifeless, tacky plastic Christmas tree when you can have a beautiful, aromatic and unique real Christmas tree without the age old problem of clearing up the pine needles. Things have moved on, you can now keep the needles on your real Christmas tree, read on for full instructions.

When we only had the Norway spruce Christmas tree, the end of the festive season involved trailing a half bare Christmas tree through your house dropping needles all the way. It took several hours to hoover up the mess and even still, an unprotected foot could be stabbed, well into the summer months.

With the advent on the modern, non-drop Christmas trees, especially the Nordmann Fir, this has all changed.

You can expect to remove the tree after I month with 95% of the needles attached, and even those that drop are longer and softer and less likely to cause pain later.

The advances have been made in three ways:

New tree species introductions such as the Nordmann Fir

Better breeding of these species, selecting for the needle retention trait

Better knowledge of how to care for the Christmas tree after harvest.

This article is about point 3.

When you think about the care of a cut Christmas tree you must think as if it is a cut flower.

It should be transported from forest to house as fast as physically possible. More than 2 weeks and deterioration will occur.

When the tree arrives at your house, if you are not ready to set it up you must keep it outside and preferably in a bucket of water. It is ok to keep the packaging net on at this stage.

When you are ready to take your Christmas tree in, you should cut of about 1” (25mm) from the bottom. This exposes fresher plant cells that will be more able to draw up the water.

Now comes another major modern advance. A huge range of Christmas tree stands that can contain water have been produced. These stands are a revelation, because all through the festive season your tree will absorb water. The hotter your room, the more water it will use. You should allow for 1-2 litres a day at the start. This will drop as the season progresses.

The best Christmas tree stands are an American product called Cinco. They are virtually un-breakable, are very stable and have a massive water reservoir (depending on size, from 3.75 litres up to a whopping 7.8 litres). The final cool feature, which is surprisingly useful, is that there is a drip catcher round the rim, so avoiding accidental water spills.

You should place you tree in a cool room or cool part of the room. If that is not possible (and is certainly not possible in our house) then you should try and keep the area as cool as possible. Consider turning down, or off any radiators or heaters next to the tree. You can turn your heating down or off through the night. If you have vented heating, then consider blocking any vents right beside your Christmas tree.

You can tell how happy a Nordmann Christmas tree is by looking at it. As the tree stresses out due to having run out of water or the room is too hot, the needles start to curl upwards. Because the underside of the needles has the 2 blue lines on them, the trees overall colour changes from dark green to a, not unpleasant, blue green. The more blue the tree, the less happy it is.

If you follow all this advice your real Christmas tree will be looking nearly as good when the big clear up takes place as it did when you first put it in place. You can expect very few needles to drop and even then they are easily hoovered up.

People ask me what to with the old tree. The most ecological thing is to re-use it in your own garden. Use secateurs to cut it up and use it for plant supports, mulch or even as a refuge for garden animals (as recommended by Bill Odie in his spring watch programmes). It will eventually break down to compost.

It is time to start to look behind doors, in drawers and in cabinets as you get your house ready for sale. When a potential buyer visits your house, they will want to look at what storage space is available to them and for their belongings. While you cannot make more space available than you actually have without a remodel expense, you will want to make the most out of the storage spaces you have in your home.

Start with cleaning out these areas, straightening shelves and organizing closet space and the items that you have stored there. The first improvement starts with getting rid of excess and unused items. The number one rule of organization is if you have not used, worn, or even considered an item for a period equal to or greater than three years, get rid of it. This is not to say that an item’s useful life is over; you can always donate items of value to others in need. If there is no useful life, time to toss it.

It’s funny thing about storage spaces. When we moved into our home, it was three times the size of our original home. We said to ourselves that we would never be able to fill it. However, human nature is that once we get an item, we would rather pack it away and never think of it again, much less ever use it again than to part with it. Now our closets and storage spaces are packed full of items that would never make the cut using the rule above.

You have to take a stand and get tough when it come to your stuff. Start with the easy items and the harder decisions will get easier as you start to see the back of cabinets and closets that have long since been obscured from site. Clothes are the best place to start. If you have not lost enough weight to wear that suit or dress in the past three years, chances are you will someday (ever the optimist) but the style or color will not be in fashion. Besides, you will want to reward you loss with new fashions anyway, right?

Don’t forget the refrigerator, freezer, kid’s toy chests, under the bed, the attic, basement storage, under the stairs and the garage. All of these areas are magnets for clutter.

Move on to the cabinets under sinks, built-in storage areas, armoires, etc. Get rid of all the outdated and expired medications, cosmetics, suntan lotions and hotel soaps and shampoos. As you begin to see boxes of donations grow and your trash can filling, you can rest easy knowing that you are also seeing the storage space increase as well.

And so will any potential buyers as well!

I have been writing articles and publishing commentary for several years that cover a number of popular topics of interest from different walks of life. Recently, my interests have turned to fall outdoor cooking and grilling outdoors, so I have been considering the purchase of a high quality Accusharp Knife Sharpener and reviewing all kinds of different brands, models and makes of electric knife sharpeners for maintaining his collection of fine cutlery.

It has been observed over and over that many homeowners abhor the task of organizing their room closets. Many don’t even seem to care even when their closets are already stuffed to the maximum with the contents inside in high disarray. Being so, closet organization tasks have been marked by many house owners as among the least of priorities in the house not realizing the benefits a neat and tidy closet could bring. Fortunately, there has also been an increased trend of homeowners wanting to get things organized inside the closet these days. Maybe they have suddenly realized the need for such or have had some experiences in which seeking for something inside the closet have become more tedious than before. In any case, organizing the closet is really just one easy task. It may be quite annoying at first but once it becomes a habit, things will become so easy that one won’t even mind the task at all. There are a handful of tips on how to organize a closet. However, the basics are just the same whatever the size and style of your closets. Hereunder are some of the basics:

Segregation – A Good Way To Start

Segregation has been a big word in organizing things and stuff. It has been adopted as among the best practices in any undertaking whether in the field of business or in the field of home making. Being so, applying segregation techniques when organizing your closet is a good way to start.

First, start off by removing all the contents of the closet and lay them out on a place such as on the floor, a wide tabletop or even on the bed. Then segregate them in such a manner that similar things or clothes are grouped together. For example, you can group your everyday shirts together or you can group your most expensive shirts and suits which are used for special occasions altogether. In addition, by segregating things, you can easily sort out which ones are supposed to be inside the closet and those that belong to some other place in the house.

Consider Purchasing A Closet Organizer

Utilizing a closet organizer is another good way to keep things in their proper places and to prevent having them end up being mixed together. Further, a closet organizer can help you maximize the full potential of every space inside the closet. You might even be surprised that many things would fit inside neatly. Closetmaid and Rubbermaid are two of the finest organizers one can procure at reasonable costs. Using an organizer may be your best bet in most closet de-cluttering tasks.

In most instances and situations, the two tips aforementioned can achieve satisfying results and can make any closet in your household look neat and tidy.

The author is a freelance writer who wants to share some tips about closet organizers as well as provide some useful information about the various closet organizer systems being popularly used these days.

Many people deal with the problem of seemingly always having a dusty home or apartment. It can be annoying to always pick up something and find it covered in a layer of dust. It also doesn’t look very good when you have guests over! By following a few easy strategies, you can drastically reduce the amount of dust that is building up in your home.

First, you should own a vacuum and use it on a regular basis. At minimum, you should plan to vacuum everything no less often then every 2 weeks. This will be often enough to avoid an obvious film of dust resting on everything. Don’t fall for “dusting” products that don’t actually pick up the dust. A traditional feather dust mostly stirs up the air and it will just settle down again elsewhere. It’s also important to make sure that your vacuum filters are changed so that it is taking dust out of the air and not just moving it around.

Another great approach to minimizing dust is to make sure you have a good air filter in your central HVAC system. All of the air in your apartment or home gradually goes through this system, and a good filter here can pull much of the dust of the air. If you don’t know if you have a dust filter in your heating and cooling system, you probably have an old one that’s clogged with dust and not doing any good! Less dust in your home will not only look better and smell fresher, but it may even allow you to breath better at home with fewer allergies.
