I am continually fighting a never ending battle against my kitchen. Seems like the more that I clean it, the faster it gets messed up again. I literally can unload and reload the dishwasher, turn it on, and go do something else. I will come back to the kitchen in 15 to 30 minutes and there are already dirty dishes sitting around. My kids and husband must have some type of phobia about using the same glass more than once. I have actually thought about getting rid of all my dishes and buy plastic plates, cups and utensils. But, after pondering that thought, I knew that would just cause me to have to go around the house collecting those things and putting them in the garbage. And that would get expensive also.

So, even though I have trained them pretty well about bringing their dirty dishes back to the kitchen and putting them into the sink, which makes rounding up the dishes to put into the dishwasher a little simpler, I still have the rest of the kitchen to keep clean. So, I use some shortcuts that make kitchen cleaning not so time consuming.

In my kitchen, I have several light fixtures. Eleven to be exact. And it doesn’t take long for dust and the grease from cooking to build up and make them dingy and yucky looking. They can be kinda tricky to clean also. So, what I do, is I put them in the dishwasher and let it do the muscle work. They come out looking cleaner than if I had washed them by hand. And it also frees me up to do something else while the dishwasher is doing that job for me. I also use this trick for other things that I have sitting around like knick knacks and kitchen gadgets that I have hanging on the walls and even artificial flowers. Just make sure that they are safe to wash that way. Not everything is.

I love cooking with a skillet. But I used to have trouble keeping it seasoned. That is, everything that I cooked would stick to it. It made cooking with it more of a chore than an enjoyment. But I solved that problem. Now, everytime that I wash and dry my skillet, I spray it with a light coat of cooking spray and wipe the excess with a paper towel. I store it in the cabinet upside down so as to not collect dust so when I get it out to cook with it the next time, it is as non-stick as those teflon skillets. But without the risk of knicking the coating and ruining it.
