We present some simple tips for cleaning kitchen appliances with baking soda which will also avoid use of harsher cleaners which damage appliances.

General Tips

Make a mixture of 1/4 cup of baking soda, 1/2 cup of vinegar, and 1 gallon of hot water to clean grease, grime as well as deodorize.

Baking Soda and White appliance surface s

Mix 1/4 cup of baking soda with a few cups of warm water to wash the outside surface of white appliances. Rinse it clean after 15 minutes to remove yellowing of the appliances.

Using Baking Soda to clean the Oven

Please keep your oven completely cool before attempting this solution. Spray the baking soda on the bottom of the oven to form a thick layer. Then with a spray bottle, spray the water on the soda to make it damp but not saturated. If the baking soda dries out, keep spraying the water. After repeating this procedure over several hours, scrape out the baking soda with a clean cloth. Finally rinse the bottom of the oven completely. Find out the shining oven with all the food particles removed out of it !

Baking Soda in cleaning the Microwave

Mix 4 tablespoons of baking soda to 1 quart of warm water to clean the inside of the microwave oven. Keep a box of baking soda in the microwave in between uses to control the odor in it. Mix a few tablespoons of baking soda with water in a microwaveble cup and boil in the microwave for a few minutes. It will make the inner surfaces damp and easy to clean as also remove the odors.

Baking Soda and Garbage

Put some baking soda onto the bottom of the garbage can beore replacing the plasic liner to eliminate odors. Similarly if you keep an open box of baking soda under the sink, you can easily get rid of foul smells there also. Whenever you fill a trash compactor spray little bit of baking soda in it.

Using Baking Soda in the Refrigerator

Just put an open box of baking soda in the refrigerator and freezer to remove the odors. You can ideally change these boxes once in every three months. If your refrigerator gives stale odors, wash the inner walls with baking soda and water. Sprinkle a little baking soda at the bottom of the crisper to make it odor free. Also keep a folded paper towel as a cover at the bottom on the crisper. Replace it every three months, just as you replace the soda boxes. You can make a mix of baking soda and water to clean food particles and rust residue in the refrigerator. Stains can also be easily removed by cleaning with baking soda. This will also eliminate the odor.

It is time to start to look behind doors, in drawers and in cabinets as you get your house ready for sale. When a potential buyer visits your house, they will want to look at what storage space is available to them and for their belongings. While you cannot make more space available than you actually have without a remodel expense, you will want to make the most out of the storage spaces you have in your home.

Start with cleaning out these areas, straightening shelves and organizing closet space and the items that you have stored there. The first improvement starts with getting rid of excess and unused items. The number one rule of organization is if you have not used, worn, or even considered an item for a period equal to or greater than three years, get rid of it. This is not to say that an item’s useful life is over; you can always donate items of value to others in need. If there is no useful life, time to toss it.

It’s funny thing about storage spaces. When we moved into our home, it was three times the size of our original home. We said to ourselves that we would never be able to fill it. However, human nature is that once we get an item, we would rather pack it away and never think of it again, much less ever use it again than to part with it. Now our closets and storage spaces are packed full of items that would never make the cut using the rule above.

You have to take a stand and get tough when it come to your stuff. Start with the easy items and the harder decisions will get easier as you start to see the back of cabinets and closets that have long since been obscured from site. Clothes are the best place to start. If you have not lost enough weight to wear that suit or dress in the past three years, chances are you will someday (ever the optimist) but the style or color will not be in fashion. Besides, you will want to reward you loss with new fashions anyway, right?

Don’t forget the refrigerator, freezer, kid’s toy chests, under the bed, the attic, basement storage, under the stairs and the garage. All of these areas are magnets for clutter.

Move on to the cabinets under sinks, built-in storage areas, armoires, etc. Get rid of all the outdated and expired medications, cosmetics, suntan lotions and hotel soaps and shampoos. As you begin to see boxes of donations grow and your trash can filling, you can rest easy knowing that you are also seeing the storage space increase as well.

And so will any potential buyers as well!

I have been writing articles and publishing commentary for several years that cover a number of popular topics of interest from different walks of life. Recently, my interests have turned to fall outdoor cooking and grilling outdoors, so I have been considering the purchase of a high quality Accusharp Knife Sharpener and reviewing all kinds of different brands, models and makes of electric knife sharpeners for maintaining his collection of fine cutlery.

Everyone has experienced this at one point or another. The morning after a big dinner party, or just a big dinner, you wake up to a massive pile of dishes in the sink. What’s worse, is that the majority of the dishes are actually massive, unwieldy pots and pans that are caked with layer upon layer of grease. Cleaning this pots can be a daunting and tiring task. However there are a few steps you can take to make cleaning your pots and pans a tad easier.

First, as soon as you are done cooking with your pots and pans, fill them with water and let them sit. This will loosen the organic material that is caked onto the cookware. Some people like to add salt to the water they put in the pots, and then boil it the next day. This is said to quickly and easily remove excess grease.

After the water has loosened the grease or burnt material left on the pan, it is time to wash them. Usually, regular dish soap and a rough surfaced sponge will serve to clean off your pots and pans. Often times though you will need to use a good deal of elbow grease to get rid of all the grease and caked-on material. Many people also use a water-vinegar solution to assist in the cleaning process.

After you have scrubbed off all of the grease and other offending materials, place your pots and pans in a strategic location where they can be allowed to dry. Or you can dry them by hand, if your arms aren’t tired from all the scrubbing you just did.

Cleaning off greasy pots and pans can be less of a hassle than it is usually made out to be. Just follow the aforementioned steps and you will be well on your way to having spotless and shiny cookware once again. You may even be fortunate enough to build some arm muscles in the process!

I’ve found the easiest way to remove all sorts of stains is with Nature’s Miracle Stain and Odor Remover. It is safe for use around pets and kids plus it works quickly and naturally to thoroughly destroy all stains and odors (that are organic) on carpets, hardwood floors and many other types of surfaces. Nature’s Miracle is the safest and best working stain remover on the market today.

I don't know about you, but many home makers spend hours trying to keep their house clean and tidy, only to find that after tackling one chore there are even more mounting up somewhere else in the house? Does that sound like you? Then you need a weekly house cleaning schedule.

Are you tired of spending hours trying to keep your house clean and tidy, only to find that after tackling one chore, you find even more mounting up somewhere else in the house? If so, why not try a weekly house cleaning schedule? The professional cleaning companies use these, and they really do help you to make sure that you tackle everything that needs to be done in the quickest, and most efficient manner.

Instead of spending several hours aimlessly trying to attack a mountain of tasks, you have a couple of small chores to do on a regular basis – for example you may have to run a broom over the kitchen floor on a daily basis, and use a wet mop once a week. Doing that takes a few minutes each day, and is much more time efficient than spending ages scrubbing a very dirty floor if you let the dirt mount up.

You should make a list of daily tasks, and another list of weekly or monthly ones – these lists can be quite short, but should cover everything that needs done – such as dusting, cleaning, and laundry. You could then have another list including things such as carpet cleaning, floor waxing, and appliance safety inspections, which need to be done on a six monthly, or yearly basis.

Checklists Help You Keep Track

Perhaps your weekly house cleaning schedule has more than a few items on the list. If that is the case, you might consider putting your list together as a check list and then marking each item off when completed. When all checks are completed, then there is no doubt that you are done. This is especially helpful if you are trying to teach children responsibility. Let them check off each chore as it is completed!

If you keep to the check list you will be able to keep the house clean and tidy, and this should help your furnishings last longer – a carpet that is well cleaned and scrubbed on a monthly basis will last much longer than one left to gather dirt. The same is true of your 3 piece suite – if it is cleaned and cared for regularly, then when it comes to updating the furnishings, you may be able to simply put a new covering on, and give the suite a whole new lease of life.

You could also add checking the fridge and cupboards to your weekly list – throw out items that are out of date, or have been open too long. This will give you a good idea of what items are running low and need to be replaced, and help you manage your shopping list too.

The winter months bring an excess of moisture to where we live and sometimes cause unexpected damages. This article outlines preventative measures you can take to reduce the likelihood of mold in your home during the winter.

The wet season can also be the mold season in many areas of the country. Mold is often found near sources of water where it can easily grow and reproduce. As it grows, mold can breakdown and compromise the integrity and strength of the source in which it lives. When large amounts of mold spores grow, they can also compromise the health of the people living near it. Mold can be killed, but if it is not removed properly, it can remain in the area just cleaned and the dry spores can be released into the air.

There are professional mold remediation services that can help get rid of the mold in your home as well as any molded personal affects like documents, photographs and book. However, prevention is the best way to help keep your lungs healthy and homes and buildings strong. Rapid Refile has put together a few easy to follow tips on how you can help thwart mold from infesting your home. Below is a sample of what they say are real-life preventive measures a home owner can follow to reduce the likelihood of mold damage.

Home Mold Prevention Tips:

• Make sure there is good air circulation in your home by using exhaust fans in the bathroom and kitchen.
• Turn off the water flow to broken appliances and pipes to reduce mold growth.
• Replace cracked or defective mortar in basements.
• If you find your basement is wet or has water leaking into it, inspect the outside drainage systems for problems.
• Spread moisture-barrier materials like heavy roofing paper or polyethylene film in crawl spaces over the soil.
• Make sure there is good ventilation in the crawl space and, if possible, do not enclose it.
• Get rid of humidity or dampness within a building by heating it for a short time. After heating, open up the doors and windows, or use an exhaust fan, to let out the air that is moist.
• If there are freezing temperatures, take precautions against burst water pipes by insulating them.
• Make sure all the seals on the windows and doors are in good-working condition.
• Clean and repair roof gutters regularly.
• Make sure the ground around your building slopes away from the foundation so water does not collect around or enter in to it.
• Act quickly if you see condensation on windows, pipes, or walls inside a building. Dry out the area and determine if the source of the condensation is from a leak or the result of high humidity.

If your home or parts of your home become flooded by broken pipes or heavy rains consider the following advice:

• Work fast. Call in a mold remediation service, which will help in the cleaning and disinfecting of your home from toxins and spores mold can release.
• Lower the humidity and temperature in the building by turning on an air conditioner and a dehumidifier to slow mold growth.
• Dispose of moldy items in a sealed bag.
• Recoverable objects that can be saved should be frozen (which deactivates mold) or dried out. Mold remediation services can assist with restoring many of your items, including documents, pictures, and books.
• Make sure there is good ventilation within the building affected. Use a fan, if necessary, to promote good air circulation.
• Remove as much standing water in a building as quickly and safely as possible after disconnecting all electronic equipment inside the building.

Many simple steps can be taken to prevent mold damage as well as water damage during the winter months. This New Years, assess your home for any potential trouble spots that may promote mold growth and take the necessary precautions to keep your home safe and protected from the damage that water and mold can cause.

Couch cleaning is very rare, but when you need to clean it, it could be tough. Read these effective cleaning tips now!

Couch cleaning is not always needed unless it is starting to attract all dog hair and all dirt possible. Follow the steps below in order to clean couches with slip covers, without slipcovers, or even leather couches.

We will start off by showing you how to clean couches with slip covers. Make sure you start by vacuuming your slip cover on the couch to remove as much dirt as you can. Then, you are able to put this into the washing machine and wash according to the directions on the cover. You should let the cover run completely through the washing machine so all the soap will remove. A tip about cleaning a slip cover is to run it through the washing machine twice to completely make the cover as good as new. Removing all the soap will avoid all the residue and dirt that will stick to your couch. The rest of the sofa should be cleaned with a steam cleaner and some Bissell. These two will work the best, and will help your couch get the best cleaning it could possibly have.

Cleaning couches without slip covers are pretty easy. You can use a vacuum to remove all the dirt from the couch or you have another option of using a steam cleaner. The steam cleaner is the best to use because it makes sure all the scum is removed.

By cleaning a leather couch, you can use a cloth or a micro-fiber cloth to wipe off the dust. This is the best way of cleaning because it will not ruin the furniture. Make sure not to wash with anything but water. Using a product could cause damage to your sofa and spots that you do not want.

Here are various strategies people have used to clean urine stains on mattresses.

Here are various strategies people have used to clean urine stains on mattresses.

1. Use the product “Urine Gone.” Works well for pet or people stains/odors.

2. One part white vinegar mixed with 2 parts dishwashing liquid. Blot as much urine as you can with paper towels. Apply mixture generously on stain with wet sponge or cloth. Let sit for half an hour. Using a clean cloth, blot as much of the soap mixture as possible. Sprinkle wet area liberally with cornstarch and vacuum away when dry.

3. Mix a syrupy paste using cornstarch and water, enough to cover the stain and stir until all lumps have gone. Pour mixture over the stain and leave for several hours until dry. Vacuum dry mixture.

4. Peroxide, baking soda and dish soap combination – mix this and spray on. You must use it within twenty minutes and you cannot store any remaining mixture. It produces short-acting by-products that are only active for a brief time. If you try to store it, it will leak or foam out of the bottle.

Mix 8 oz hydrogen peroxide, 3 tablespoons baking soda and a drop of dishwashing liquid. Mix well and spray onto urine stain. Stain should be gone in about five minutes. If the baking soda leaves a white powder, this can be vacuumed off or wiped away with a damp cloth. This is usually only a problem if too much baking soda is used.

5. Resolve carpet cleaner.

Mattress pads and bedwetting diapers can be useful in managing bedwetting while the causes are dealt with. Bedwetting children are usually heavy sleepers and have not yet learned to wake to the signal of a full bladder. In younger children, the body’s urine-reduction system is still developing and it is impossible for children to stop bedwetting unless they are developmentally ready.

This is regrettable because the longer a coffee stain is allowed to sit, the more difficult it will be to clean. It is important to keep this in mind when tending to a coffee stain; the sooner you begin cleaning the stain site, the better.

Before applying any stain removing solution to the area, attempt to blot up as much of the coffee as is possible. The more coffee you absorb using a rag or paper towel, the less of it will mix in the fabric you are trying to clean and the easier the stain will be to treat.

One method of cleaning up coffee stains is to mix equal parts white vinegar and water and thoroughly rinse the area with the solution. Allow the mixture some time to set in, and rinse the site with water and blot it up with a paper towel or absorbent rag.

Another method is to mix a small amount of non-bleaching detergent with a sizable quantity of water. Then, follow the same procedure as listed with the vinegar and water mixture.

Many people prefer to use store bought spot cleaning brands that use active enzymes to facilitate the cleaning. These products are often very successful at cleaning out tough stains such as coffee stains because the active enzymes naturally break down and biodegrade the organic stain causing molecules. When purchasing a store bought stain remover product, it is generally advisable to shoot for a product that uses non-toxic ingredients, so it will be safe to use around pets and children. Non-toxic cleaning products are also less prone to damaging your carpeting or other fabrics.

Whichever coffee stain cleaning method you decide to utilize, always be sure to do a spot test with the cleaning solution you are going to use. Choose a remote location on your carpeting and apply a small amount of the mixture. If you see no change in coloration of the fabric after a few minutes, then the solution is safe to use.
